Rolls Royce Cullinan 2018 REVEALED – First look at luxury SUV design, specs and pictures

Rolls Royce has pulled the wraps off the highly anticipated

It is a vehicle that has been in the works for over three years and now it has been officially shown to the world for the first time.

The Cullian has been developed on the Architecture of Luxury – Rolls-Royce’s proprietary all-aluminium platform.

It was designed to be scalable to the size and weight requirements of different future Rolls-Royce models, including those with different propulsion, traction and control systems, thus underpinning the long-term future product roadmap.

Rolls Royce also strived to achieve the company’s ‘Magic Carpet’ ride off-road as well as on-road.

Achieving this required a number of modifications and changes from other models in the brand’s line-up.

Firstly, the vehicle architecture is lighter and the car features next generation self-levelling air suspension.

Engineers were also required to add larger air struts with more air volume to cushion the blows of tougher terrains.

The drive and prop shafts were also strengthened and engine refined to deliver the right amount of torque at the lowest possible revolutions.

For the first time in the company’s history an all-wheel drive system was made available.

Powering the car is the same 6.75 litre twin-turbo V12 Rolls-Royce engine under the bonnet of the Phantom VIII, revealed last year.

The car has been designed to isolate the luggage compartment from the rear passengers

This engine delivers 563bhp and 850Nm of torque to the all-new all-wheel drive, all-wheel steer system.

The car automatically lowers by 40mm when unlocked to allow easer access to the vehicle. Much like a typical Roller, the rear doors open in the reverse direction to the front.

Once the car is started the car is elevated by 40mm to its standard riding height.

Its design is certainly going to be divisive as it is essentially an the face of a Phantom bolted onto a bulky SUV.

The headlights and air intakes are deep set into the bodywork and new ‘eyebrow’ daytime running lights flank the Pantheon grille, which is finished in hand-polished stainless steel.

The stunningly refined interior of the bespoke SUV

From the side and the rear the car is better looking, especially at the back with the new rear light signature.

The car sits on ginormous 22-inch alloy wheels and will have a high-riding driving position.

While the car’s exterior may not be your cup of tea, the interior is what the car, and in general the brand as a whole, does exceptionally well.

Comfort features for the driver and the passengers include a heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated seats throughout the cabin.

At the centre of the dashboard is a touch sensitise screen for the first time on a Rolls Royce. It makes using the car’s features easier and more intuitive.

Alternatively it can be controlled by the traditional dial, which sits in the centre console and now incorporates the ‘Off-Road’ button, Hill Descent Control button and Air Suspension height adjustment controls

The car has been split into three sections which has been said to reduce interior noise. It features a D-Back design separating the luggage compartment completely from the rear passengers with a glass partition.

A secondary benefit from this design is the cabin remains the optimum temperature even with the boot open.

It is split into two sections which can be opened via the key fob. However, splitting the section off from the rear of the car gives it a fairly standard bootspace of 560-litres.

Two rear passenger configurations are offered – Lounge Seats or Individual Seats – with the former being the most practical, offering space for three.

Prices have yet to be confirmed for the new ‘high-sided vehicle’

The latter is designed for two passengers serrated by a Fixed Rear Centre Console which includes a drinks cabinet with Rolls-Royce whisky glasses and decanter, champagne flutes and refrigerator.

Further equipment includes: Night Vision and Vision Assist including daytime and night-time Wildlife & Pedestrian warning; Alertness Assistant; a 4-Camera system with Panoramic View, all-round visibility and helicopter view; Active Cruise Control; Collision Warning; Cross-Traffic Warning, Lane Departure and Lane Change Warning; an industry leading 7×3 High-Resolution Head-Up Display, WiFi hotspot, and of course the latest Navigation and Entertainment Systems.

Five USB ports have been incorporated around the car as has a rear touchscreen map and wireless charging pads in the front of the car.

All surfaces are also heated including the front door armrests, front centre console lid, lower C-Pillar, rear side armrests and rear centre armrest.

A number of different materials can be specified including high-quality wood, polished metals and leather.

The car will go on sale later this year.
